OUR VISION

The vision of the Masaka Laboratory is that of disaster risk management driven by communities and local actors in Africa . Masaka is an incubator of solutions and innovations in the humanitarian sector, disaster risk reduction and management in Africa.

The laboratory supports the development and piloting of new solutions to allow a faster and more effective response to humanitarian crises in Africa. It aims to bring thinking and humanitarian action closer to communities, by contributing to the development of innovative emergency preparedness and response systems.

The Lab's vision is that of a world in which the foundations of humanity are restored and reaffirmed. An Africa that places people and principles at the heart of humanitarian action. An Africa that has regained its basic humanity, in which no one facing crisis dies when they can be saved, goes hungry or falls victim to disasters or conflicts due to lack of political will or resources to help them.

Today is about catalyzing change for more impact. When disaster strikes, solutions are too often late, insufficient, of poor quality or absent. Now is the time for research and innovation, both radical and progressive, because it is a question of strengthening the aid system, making it proactive and flexible in its approach and therefore more effective.

The singularity of the Lab's action is twofold:

  • A participative work methodology which is based on the valorization of concrete initiatives underpinning innovation and the future of the humanitarian sector as well as structuring its collective intelligence.
  • The ability to interact different ideas and knowledge for collegial reflection so to highlight humanitarian action. The Lab aims to educate citizens about this economy where activities are human-oriented and based on sustainable development.
